Roger Wright, P.E., P.S.
Washington County Engineer
Roger Wright grew up in Vinton County, Ohio and has been a lifelong resident of Southeastern Ohio. Roger attended Vinton County High School and upon graduation pursued higher education at Ohio University in Athens, Ohio.
With his love of the outdoors, Roger decided to pursue a degree in Civil Engineering (1999) with extra coursework in surveying. In Roger's words, "I wanted to be able to keep playing in the dirt."
Upon graduation Roger joined the Washington County Engineer's Office, working with County Engineers Ted Sushka (1999-2000) and Bob Badger (2000-2012). From 1999 to 2010 Roger acted in many capacities, mainly working as Project Engineer in tandem with Tim January, who joined the department in 2000. Roger teamed up with Bob and Tim to modernize Washington County’s infrastructure and Highway Department, replacing more than 70 of the county's 380 total bridges during their decade of service together (2000-2010).
In 2004, Roger earned his Professional Engineer certification and in 2010 his Professional Surveyor certification. In 2010 Roger was named the Deputy Engineer and was elected in 2012 to serve as the Washington County Engineer.
Continuing his partnership with Tim January, during the next decade (2010-2019) Roger replaced another 27 bridges and continued to modernize the county roads, slowly replacing gravel roads with hard surface. From 2020 to date, another 14 bridges have been replaced and all county roads were finally hard surfaced in 2023.
Roger continues to strive to improve Washington County’s infrastructure in his fourth term as County Engineer. Roger and his wife Erica live in Belpre and enjoy life with their five children. Roger enjoys taking them on adventures during vacation to look at interesting bridge structures, rarely receiving positive feedback unless lunch or dinner is included in that day’s adventure.
